This is the core principle for transforming any activity into meditation. We perform most actions mechanically. To de-automatize is to bring full, moment-to-moment awareness to these acts.
Choose a habitual activity (like smoking, eating, or walking)... Do it slowly and with complete awareness... Notice each step: taking the pack from the pocket, tapping, smelling, lighting, taking the first puff... Watch the act so consciously that its inherent nature is revealed... This principle can be applied to any habitual act.
