Step 7: Osho Nataraj Meditation (Dance)

7of 108

Nataraj • 3 stages (dance, silence, celebration) with bell between stages.

This is a 65-minute meditation with three stages, centered around dance as a form of meditation. Nataraj is the dancing form of Shiva, representing the cosmic dance of creation and destruction. This practice allows you to move from wild, possessed movement into deep silence, and finally into celebratory bliss.

Stage 1 (40 min): With closed eyes, begin to dance. Let the dance take over completely. Dance as if possessed, as if the dance is dancing you. Don't think about how you look or what movements to make. Just let the body move, let the energy flow. Stage 2 (20 min): When you hear the bell, immediately stop dancing. Lie down right where you are. Keep your eyes closed. Be completely silent and still. Don't move. Just witness. Stage 3 (5 min): When you hear the bell again, begin to dance once more, but this time in a celebratory mood. Dance with joy, with gratitude, with bliss. Express your appreciation for life through movement.

Reflection

What was the difference between the 'possessed' dance (Stage 1) and the 'celebratory' dance (Stage 3)?
