Many times, meditation doesn't 'happen' because we are too busy 'doing.' But it comes silently, like a whisper. Make one thing a rule: sit silently for one hour every day and just wait (Shant Pratiksha). Don't 'do' anything. Don't repeat a mantra. Just close your eyes and wait. If you are under a tree, listen to the wind in the leaves. Be in silent, open waiting.
Find a comfortable place to sit. You can set a timer for 20, 40, or 60 minutes (the practice recommends an hour, but start with what feels manageable). Close your eyes. Now, just wait. Don't try to meditate. Don't try to focus. Don't repeat a mantra. Don't do anything. Just wait. Be in silent, open waiting. If thoughts come, let them. If feelings arise, let them. Just wait. Listen to the sounds around you—the wind, the birds, the silence behind the sounds. Just wait. Meditation will come to you, silently, like a whisper.
