Step 11: Drown in Creation

11of 108

Creation as Meditation • Choose a creative timer and immerse fully.

Art is meditation. When you paint, dance, or sing, be completely drowned in the activity. Lose yourself in the creation. Don't be a mere technician; be the creator. Be in it so totally that the 'I' disappears. This practice transforms any creative act into a meditative experience. Choose a creative activity—painting, writing, dancing, singing, playing music—and immerse yourself completely.

Choose your creative activity. Set a timer for 20, 45, or 60 minutes. Gather your materials. Now, begin. As you create, lose yourself completely. Don't think about the result. Don't judge what you're making. Just be in the act of creation. Paint as if you are the painting. Dance as if you are the dance. Sing as if you are the song. Be so totally absorbed that the 'I' disappears. There is only the creation, and you are one with it.
